Arthur Soppera is a Swiss knifemaker and lived at Zurich almost all his life until he moved into an old country house 4 years ago. He was trained to be a goldsmith and worked as a jeweller full-time for 30 years, creating high-class jewellery, before he took up knifemaking in 1985.
Apart from fixed-blade knives he soon started making folders, inventing a mechanism of his own, then another, better one, a Button-Lock system (Pat.Pend.), which is very easy-going and double-locking and takes up very little space within the handle, so that he can give his folders almost any shape he likes. So some of them are rather fancy, but others are very practical and made to be carried in one’s pocket. Of course all his fancy folders are one-of-a-kinds. He still creates jewellery from time to time, including some knife-jewellery, especially necklaces with integrated knives ; these, too, are unique. And of course he still produces sheath knives - daggers or fighters ; they, too, are one-of-a-kinds.
Arthur Soppera is a member of the American Knifemakers Guild, of the German and the Italian Guilds and of the Swiss "Form Forum", a member organization of the International Crafts Council
